Annabel Johnson

Annabel Johnson is co-founder of Children’s Art School.  Implementing out of school art courses for children, we partner with schools and artists developing activities that foreground collaboration and independent thought. In an unpressured space, children can experiment with ideas, think laterally and enjoy making work together. Annabel was Education Curator at Whitechapel Gallery for 12 years, curating Artist in Residence programmes in schools. Year long residencies, in which collaborative work was developed, culminated in exhibitions in the Gallery. She devised research on artists working in schools, as part of enquire and developed a Co-mentoring programme for Artists and Secondary School Teachers. Annabel has a degree in Art History, a PGCE in Primary Education and an MA in Museum and Gallery Education. She was a teacher for seven years alongside freelancing at the National Maritime Museum where she devised a popular family programme. She is the mother of two young boys. (Updated 2014)
