Michael Tooby

Mike Tooby is an independent curator and writer based in Cardiff, and a Professor at Bath School of Art and Design. Mike studied in Cambridge (1975-78) and at Kettle’s Yard until 1980. He was Exhibitions Organiser at Third Eye Centre Glasgow, 1980 – 84, and Keeper of the Mappin Art Gallery Sheffield until becoming founding curator of Tate St Ives in 1992. He was a Director of Amgueddfa Cymru. National Museum Wales from 2000-2011. He is a past chair of engage (1999 – 2004) and continues to work with the organisation. Mike’s practice since 2011 includes collaborative work in temporary settings as an artist-curator, and guest curating and facilitating new projects for major venues. He is a Senior Research Fellow at Henry Moore Institute for 2014 – 15, a member of the steering committee for Wales at the Venice Biennale and a Trustee of Artes Mundi. (Updated 2014)
