TYA-UK presents The Creative Case Children and Young People: A symposium

Tuesday 11 July 2017
11am

Type

One Day Seminar/Conference

Cost

From £20

Summary

Throughout 2017 Theatre for Young Audiences UK (TYA) has sought to address a question fundamental to our work and the development of theatre for younger audiences:

What do we need to put in place to ensure theatre for children, young people and families is reflective of the society we live in today?

The symposium is the culmination of this programme, which has also included:

- Supporting six artists with a bursary to enable them to take part in an action-research trip to the ASSITEJ World Summit in Cape Town in May 2017

- Research to map current provision and practice in England's TYA sector in relation to The Creative Case, with recommendations on how the sector can diversity its artists and audiences

The symposium will include a presentation of the research findings (by Delia Jarrett-Macauley) and feedback from the artists that visited Cape Town (Tayo Akinbode , David Gilbert, Ryan David Harston, Louise Katerega, and Bhavik Parmer).

The day will also include an 'in conversation' session with Abid Hussain; Director, Diversity, Arts Council England, and plenary sessions through which a shared route-map for the diversification of the sector will be developed.
