Generation ART: Young Artists on Tour launched in June 2015 at Turner Contemporary, Margate, alongside the enormously popular Grayson Perry exhibition, ‘Provincial Punk’.

Over the three months that Generation ART was on show at Turner Contemporary, the gallery received 158,000 visitors; more than double the anticipated audience.

As well as a supporting programme of creative workshops, the exhibition was accompanied by the first Generation ART commission enabling artist Leandro Stafford to work with young people from Newington Youth Centre in Ramsgate to create a new and positive narrative for Newington.

Leandro and the participating young people displayed a selection of the Newington messages on a giant light box sited on Turner Contemporary terrace for National Youth Day, alongside youth ‘takeover’ activities including young artists working in the gallery, live performance, and skill sharing with Turner Contemporary personnel. The Generation ART commission was co-ordinated by People United and Turner Contemporary and supported by Newington Big LocalClick here for further information about the commission.
