Setting Fires: Raising Aspirations through Culture

In an area of low cultural engagement and investment, Wigan Council have supported the development of a new Cultural Manifesto for the borough, signalling a step change in the local vision and ambition for arts and culture.

Artist duo Al & Al were instrumental in realising a visual language to share the manifesto with audiences, curating a brand new exhibition space in The Galleries Shopping Centre. The Fire Within exhibition shared the Cultural Manifesto through artists and artefacts, attracting 23k visitors over the launch weekend. Nearby in another former retail unit, arts organisation Wigan STEAM are forging strategic local partnerships that work towards a shared purpose for high-quality cultural experiences, creative learning opportunities and enriching social spaces.

Join Engage North West for a meeting exploring insights into the early development of the Cultural Manifesto, and consider the role of art and artists in shaping, transforming and repurposing public policies and spaces.
