Yorkshire Sculpture International Symposium

This day of talks by artists, curators, fabricators and educators will explore the work that goes on behind the scenes to develop large scale and public sculpture for international exhibitions.

Discussions will include:

  • The traditional and new technologies used in sculpture today
  • The role of collaboration with fabricators and specialists
  • The challenges of developing sculpture for the public realm and the current context of accessing sculpture making facilities and education in sculpture

Throughout the day we will consider the future aspirations for Yorkshire Sculpture International (the second of which is planned for 2023) and the production of sculpture in Yorkshire.

The morning session will focus on sculpture production.

Guest speakers are:

  • Rungwe Kingdon, Co-Founder and Director of Pangolin Editions
  • Rana Begum, Artist
  • Samuel Leuenberger, Director and Curator of SALTS, Birsfelden and Curator of Art Basel’s Parcours programme
  • Simeon Barclay, Artist

The afternoon session will be dedicated to discussing access to sculpture facilities and sculpture education.

Guest speakers are:

  • Lucy Tomlins, Director of Pangaea Sculptors’ Centre
  • Henry Ward, Creative Director of Freelands Foundation
