engage 8 Art histories in action ‘from armoured to loose canons’

Published in association with the Association of Art Historians and Tate Britain, this issue responds to the debate on the teaching of art history. Articles by Professor Eric Fernie, Courtauld Institute of Art; Dr Tom Gretton, University College London; Jane Trowell, Chelsea College of Art & Design; Howard Hollands, Middlesex University; and others, address the changes that have occurred, in particular, the shift from verbal to visual means of communication, old to new art histories, ‘armoured’ to ‘loose’ canons.
