Removing barriers to access

Welcome to Sharing Practice

With c.800 members in the UK and around the world, the Engage team is lucky to be in regular contact with colleagues working in gallery and visual arts education who are leading the way with fascinating and diverse practice in a great variety of areas.

In order to share this learning with the wider sector, and promote our members’ work, we have invited members to present examples of their practice that fit within a set theme. These practice case studies are available to both members and non-members alike.

In February 2019, members were invited to respond to the theme ‘Removing Barriers to Access’, with the following question provided in the call-out:

Has your organisation enabled audiences to visit who otherwise might have had difficulties to do so, by providing transport, meals or upgrading facilities?

In response, Firstsite, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Royal Museums Greenwich and The Wallace Collection provided insights into how they have enabled greater access with their organisations.
