Mr Duchamp said we could play here

This article is a call-to-action! In this text Lisa Jacques and Hugo Worthy encouraged and challenged me to think differently about engagement, to consider play as an essential methodology within gallery space and programming.

They reminded me of the potential spirit of joy, openness and transformation that resides in meaningful engagement. I began to seek out ways to create new experiences to transform ‘visitors’ to ‘residents’, inspired by the positioning of play in a historical context and feeling empowered through this research to ask questions when confronted with institutional barriers.

The work continues… and so does the learning.
