Looking back at 41 issues as Editor I’m fascinated and inspired by the range of topics, including issue 21 in 2008 which focused on climate change.
In her editorial, Karen Raney’s defining moment on climate change was James Lovelock’s The Revenge of Gaia in 2006, whilst in 2007 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) described the evidence for human-induced climate change as ‘unequivocal’.
In her article, Bridget McKenzie promotes the vital role of cultural education and provides her list of specific projects that can develop ‘the skills of critical thinking, empathy, imaginative problem-solving and resourceful making (which) will be essential in helping humanity raise to the many challenges climate change presents’. Sadly, ten years on this is more urgent than ever.
