Artists as Learners 2014 - update

During June and July 2014, engage Cymru worked with three new partners – Ffotogallery, Oriel y Parc and Oriel Myrddin to deliver Artists as Learners 2014.

Six early career artist educators worked alongside experienced artist mentees to devise and deliver exciting approaches and interventions to inspire hard to reach young people.

The evaluation report and images will be available shortly.

Artists as Learners 2013

In the summer of 2013 engage Cymru sought applications for a new professional development programme, Artists as Learners, a pilot programme which was scheduled to run in the November and December 2013. It was developed as a direct response to recent engage Cymru programmes which highlighted a shortage of visual artists and makers with the skills and experience required to work with hard to reach or vulnerable young people in a gallery setting.

Participants were mentored by an experienced lead artist and the programme was run in partnership with Oriel Mostyn, Ceredigion Museum & Gallery, Glynn Vivian Museum & Gallery and Denbighshire Arts Service / Rhyl Library & Art Gallery. Each venue planned to host two artist-learners, for a total of eight places on the pilot course. Previous experience working with young people was not required, but applications were sought from artists and makers with a genuine interest in developing their practice in this direction. An evaluation report from the pilot programme has now been published, please click here to download.
