Careers advice
Want to find out more about working in art galleries, or combine a career as an artist with gallery work?
Find out more here.
Galleries are great places to work - a chance to see exciting new art every few weeks, opportunities to meet artists and the public, and great people to work with.
These pages will give you an idea of what is involved in working in or with galleries, particularly through gallery education, whether you are still at school, in further or higher education, or if you are looking for a change in career.
Those based in Scotland might also find it useful to read the engage Scotland document:

Getting Started in Gallery Education in Scotland

If you can't find the information you need on these pages, send an email to info@engage.org or call engage on 020 7729 5858 and we will do our best to help.
This is an edited version of a website created following engage's involvement in the Creative Renewal programme funded through EQUAL. This project involved research, training and sharing good practice and results, aimed at broadening the gallery education workforce and making it more representative of the people it serves.

In March 2017, we ran a free careers event in the Switch House of the Tate, open to anybody interested in a career in gallery or visual arts education. Run as part of Tate Exchange, and a peer-led professional development event, experienced gallery and visual arts professionals spoke about their career paths and experiences, and offered one-to-one coaching sessions and advice.
