Andrew Newman

Andrew Newman is Senior Lecturer at the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies, Newcastle University. His current research interests follow two main themes. Firstly, the consumption of museums and galleries, particularly around identity construction, viewed as a way of understanding how people use cultural property in their everyday lives. A further theme is museum and gallery policy construction, particularly its relationship with wider social policy. He has been involved in a number of research projects funded by AHRC, ESRC, and MRC. The most recent of which, Contemporary Visual Art and Identity Construction – Wellbeing Amongst Older People explores the engagement of older people with the arts. (Updated 2012)
