Opportunities to join the Engage Council

We are looking for new Council representatives. This is a great opportunity to gain professional development by playing a key advisory role within a national organisation.

The roles we are looking for are:

Area reps:

• South East

• North West Wales

• Mid Wales

Joanna Kori, Freelance Rep says,

“...organisations that I work with see me positively as someone who is taking a proactive interest in ensuring that a quality service is provided by freelancers, and who is in touch with issues that affect people both locally and nationally.”

Representatives support colleagues, advise Engage and gain professional development. Engage area groups work together across the UK to help colleagues by:

• Supporting Engage members in their region or area of expertise

• Helping to shape Engage’s work nationally

• Building Engage’s external networks

• Acting as an advocate for gallery education

As a membership organisation with c.850 members throughout the UK and internationally, Engage values the views and input of our members. In particular we benefit from the input of our network of volunteer area groups to support professional development and networking across the nine regions of England.

The role of Council Representative is very important to Engage - there are two to three reps in most areas who work together with support from the Engage team to further our aim to promote access to, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts through gallery education.

Engage area group and special interest reps sit on a Council of members, attending three meetings a year, during which members and staff discuss the organisation’s policies and programmes, as well as hear speakers on agreed topics that are relevant to the sector and gallery education practice. Two Council meetings normally take place in London and one out of London.

Area group reps also programme up to four meetings per year in their region, networking with colleagues and taking an active role in supporting the gallery education sector, with the additional support of special interest reps. These are voluntary roles, though some support for travel and time is available to freelancers. We ask that Council members serve 6 years. The benefits of becoming a Council member include:

• 20% discount on conferences & training seminars in the UK organised by Engage centrally with input from Engage Cymru and Engage Scotland

• The opportunity to input into national gallery education policy and strategy

• Being part of a network of key people involved in gallery education in the UK

• Advice and guidance on accessing key organisations in the UK and other countries

• The chance to network with colleagues and form partnerships locally and nationally within Engage and its many partner organisations.

To apply, please send a covering letter/email (max 1 side A4) and a recent CV to operations@engage.org by 9.00am, Monday 31 July 2017.

Please use the cover letter to detail your relevant experience and what you would bring to the role, as well as why you are interested in applying.
