Do you have a commitment to and understanding of gallery education and its ability to inspire, support and enhance young people’s learning and development? Are you interested in developing your experience of working with young people who are disengaging with education and at risk of becoming NEET?
Engage Cymru is inviting expressions of interest from visual artists and makers based in North Wales wanting to train as Arts Award Advisors. Places are limited, and subject to artists having a genuine interest in working with young people and possessing some experience in this field.

Our aim is to build up a pool of artists who are able to innovatively engage young people; inspire and motivate them through the visual and applied arts and support them to achieve Arts Award.

Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification that takes young people on a creative learning journey, helping them broaden their ideas about art and creativity and achieve an Award. Feedback from Engage Cymru project partners using Arts Award has been overwhelmingly positive about outcomes for young people. Once you have trained as an Advisor you can deliver it at any registered Arts Award Centre. The number of Arts Award centres in Wales is growing, and includes galleries, libraries and youth centres.

In order to be eligible for this training you need to meet the following criteria:

• Be living and working in North Wales
• Have a commitment to socially engaged artistic practice
• Can demonstrate interest in developing your practice to work with disengaged young people
• Be available on 17th and 18th October 2017
• Possess a current DBS or be willing to undergo the process to obtain one
• Have some experience of delivering or supporting learning programmes in galleries
• Have some experience planning and delivering learning or visual arts projects with young people aged 11 – 25
• Have some understanding of the factors which may cause young people to be socially disadvantaged or disengaged from learning
