Context:

Building upon recommendations made by the Mendoza review in 2017, the new Museum Action Plan has set out specific criteria for museums and galleries to improve. In order for museums and galleries to flourish successfully, there is a need to collaborate more effectively with governments and funding bodies, diversify audiences and the workforce and to successfully utilise digital platforms.

Attend this Westminster Briefing for an overview of the governments new plan and to assess the most effective way to move forward in response. Explore dynamic forms of good practice when curating attractive and widely-engaging museums and galleries.

Key issues to be adressed:

  • Key responses in policy to the Mendoza review and how museums and galleries should progress
  • Collaborating effectively with governmental and funding bodies
  • Museums and galleries role in placemaking and contribution to local priorities
  • Effective promotion locally, regionally and internationally across digital platforms
  • Growing and diversifying audiences and the workforce

About the day:

The morning session will look at the new museum action plan and outline the Government's direction for museums and galleries.

The afternoon session will explore good practice: on how different museums and galleries are making themselves attractive and engaging wide audiences.

We will provide morning refreshments and a networking lunch. Please let us know about any special needs or dietary requirements.

Who should attend?

Anyone with an interest in the future of our museums and galleries, including those who work in the cultural sector, as well as local authority Heads of Culture, Arts & Heritage Managers and Museum Development Managers.
