Create a Recycled Flower Mobile

Raid the rubbish for cardboard to make the flowers, old tins, small lids and bottles for templating and bottle lids to weight the mobile.

String, wire, wool, thread, yarn or cut up some fabric into thin strands.

Glue — PVA, pritt stick, double sided sticky tape or make your own glue using instructions below.

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together flour and cold water. Use equal portions of flour and water for a thick paste and more water to make glue.
  2. Heat the mixture until it boils and thickens. If it is too thick, you can add a bit more water. …
  3. Remove from heat. Add coloring, if desired.

Paint — if you don’t have any paint, cardboard could be coloured in with pens or collaged using glue and paper-off cuts. You could make your own using the folowing instructions we found online

Add food colouring or watercolour to the following recipe: 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup water

Scissors — small and large ones for adults if you have them. Be careful that the children don’t run around whilst holding scissors, teach them to point them away from their face and beware of those working next to them.

How to create your mobile

Step 1: Draw 8 round circles with the larger template and 8 with the smaller round template

Step 2: Cut them all out

Step 3: Attach the small circle to one side of the larger circles

Step 3: Mix some paint, paint one side and wait to dry

Step 4: Snip the flowers to shape them

Step 5: Run a length of wool down the middle of two flowers. Attach with glue leaving a gap of 10 cm between flowers and 20cm at the top and bottom. Glue 2 flowers together and wait to dry.

Step 6: Paint the middle circle with a contrasting colour

Step 7: Add a bottle top to the bottom of the wool

Step 8: Attach to a stick at the top

Step 9: Hang it somewhere you can enjoy it, send a picture to your friends.
