Think of a song that has been your favourite to listen to over the last few months. The song that will always remind you of Lockdown 2020 — this can be any song, new or old!
Then we would like you to share that song with someone of a different generation to you. Tell them the name of your song, and ask them to listen to it. And they will share their lockdown song with you. This could be grandparents swapping songs with your grandchildren, aunties sharing with your nephews, or swapping songs with your neighbour over the garden fence.
Just remember that your song needs to be child and grown-up friendly!
While you listen to someone else’s lockdown song, we would like you to create some artwork inspired by the music you are listening to. This could be a drawing, a painting, a sculpture- whatever artwork you like. This artwork could be based on the way that the song makes you feel, or the colours it makes you think of, or even the images that appear in your head thanks to the lyrics. There is no right or wrong, and you can be as creative as you like.
You can do this together if you live in the same household, or are in the same social bubble. Or you could create your artwork at the same time over a video. You could even just text each other the names of your chosen songs, create your artwork in your own in your own homes, and then send each other a picture of your artwork afterwards. It is really flexible, and the important thing is to be inspired by each other’s music, and to have fun!
Grown-ups, if you would rather leave the creating artwork side of things to the children, that’s fine too. Or if you would like to get a bit more hands on, do join in.
We’d love to see what you create! When you’re finished take a photograph of the artwork you have made, and share it with us on our social media pages along with names, ages and the songs you have chosen.
This event is open to the public.
