Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education 2020

Applications are open for the tenth anniversary Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education.

Do you know someone doing excellent and inspirational work in gallery or visual art education and learning?

The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of those working in learning and education within gallery or visual arts contexts (freelance, salaried or as volunteers) in the UK and internationally. We recognise that 2020 has been a difficult year for those working in the arts, and we welcome nominations for colleagues whom you have worked with, including colleagues who are currently furloughed or whom you have stopped working with during the coronavirus pandemic.

Nominations Deadline: 10am on Monday 7 December 2020

The awards ceremony will take place online early in 2021.

I really valued receiving the Award, which gave a boost to confidence and encouraged reflection… It was equally valued within the gallery team and assisted in raising the profile of the Learning Programme as a whole.

Why nominate?

Running since 2011, the awards have successfully enabled winners to develop their arts education practice through funding attendance of courses and conferences, the joining of professional associations, visiting of good practice in the UK and abroad, funding of research, and by inspiring personal and professional confidence through the recognition of their work.

The awards

  • Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education

Five awards will be made to individuals in the UK who have shown dedication or innovation in their work, whilst working in learning or education, in or for galleries or visual arts organisations. Each winner will receive £500 to spend on their own professional development.

  • Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education (International Award)

One award will be offered to an individual working outside the UK who has shown dedication or innovation in their work, whilst working in learning or education, in or for galleries or visual arts organisations. The winner will receive £500 to spend on their own professional development.

  • Marsh Awards for Excellence in Gallery Education (Lifetime Achievement Award)

Introduced in 2019, this award celebrates the lifetime achievement of a colleague who is working, or who has worked in learning or education, in or for galleries or visual arts organisations in the UK. The winner will receive £500 to spend as they would like.

I was thrilled to receive a Marsh Award, it feels like a really high accolade to achieve, especially as I still consider myself to be at quite an early stage in my career.
