DCA are delighted to welcome back design action group Dash N’ Dem (Dash Macdonald and Demitrios Kargotis) and their 2012 project Imagine Being a World Leader to Monday Makes. Here they are to introduce this week’s make:
As we listen to daily speeches from world leaders around the globe responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, you can use the templates and exercises from Imagine Being A World Leader, to learn more about political rhetoric and how to write and deliver your own speech.Dash N’ Dem
Originally staged to coincide with the 2012 American Presidential election, the Imagine Being a World Leader exhibition created a fictional political event to enable young people’s voices to be heard, while exposing the methods of politicians and world leaders. Dash N’ Dem worked with local children from Blackness Primary School, teaching them leadership and public speaking techniques.
The ‘Dundee 2012, World Change Summit’ was based on an exercise book with step-by-step activities introducing political rhetoric, body language and voice projection originally developed in collaboration with public speaking coach Ysabel Claire. Using this resource, the young delegates were taught to write and deliver a persuasive political speech, addressing what they believed would make the world a better place in the future.
