Sharon Byrne

At Focal Point Gallery, I have developed a series of activities, events and one-off projects to engage people of all ages in current debates around contemporary art. Having grown up in Southend, I am proud to be working in an organisation which brings the local, national and international into context. Events that form an introduction to the philosophies and practice of contemporary visual artists in the exhibitions and offsite programme offer a starting point for inspiration, aspiration and discussion in the community. During my time at FPG, I have been able to realise a trajectory of engagement for the very young through to adulthood. Artist-led workshops, family activities, children's art clubs, Young Artists' groups, Arts Awards (Discover through to Gold), Home Ed sessions, student tours, schools' projects, artists' talks and a developing volunteer scheme offer support at the various stages in creative pathways and beyond.
