New Children's Art Week Ambassador announced

Children’s Laureate, Lauren Child, Signs as Ambassador for Children’s Art Week 2018

Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education, and organisers of Children’s Art Week (Saturday 9 – Sunday 17 June 2018), are delighted to announce that Lauren Child, current Waterstones Children’s Laureate, has signed up as an ambassador for the annual campaign; a celebration of children’s creativity.

Speaking about why she wanted to be involved, Lauren said:

“Nurturing creativity is at the heart of what I represent as Waterstones Children’s Laureate, because I believe that making space and time for children to be creative is an essential part of a child’s education.  Children’s Art Week is a fantastic way to encourage creativity inside and outside school, in adults and children alike, and I am very pleased to give it my support.”

Look out for something special from Lauren linked in with Children’s Art Week on the official Waterstones Children’s Laureate website from 11 June 2018.

Engage Director Jane Sillis says, “We are thrilled to have Lauren as an ambassador for Children’s Art Week as she appeals so directly to the target audience for the campaign. Her new ideas will encourage children to get involved with Children’s Art Week even if they can’t get to an event. It is a real win-win.”

There will be interactive events across the UK, from ‘Postcard Portraits’ in Edinburgh to ‘Clay Creations’ in Cambridge, encouraging children of all ages to get creative. Venues are putting on topical & relevant activities, involving everything from stop animation to origami, to inspire children to get involved in making art of all kinds.

Many events are free whilst some may have a small charge to cover the cost of materials. Details of all Children’s Art Week events can be found on the website – www.childrensartweek.org.uk. Also check your local listings and press for details.
