Galleries engaging with older people: Flintshire County Council case study

This case study resulted from one of a number of action research projects managed by Engage Cymru focusing on engaging older people in art and gallery activities including within intergenerational projects. The projects took place during the period 2009-2011.

Workshops were held at Llys Eleanor Xtra Care Housing Scheme in Shotton. This is a residential scheme that caters for individuals with a range of care needs. Every individual has their own legally tenured home within a complex that provides excellent facilities designed to extend independent living whilst providing care and support as and when required by residents.

Three of the initial eleven participants have some problems with sight, one has difficulty in hearing when the group were being addressed, most have mobility restrictions with three needing to remain in wheelchairs. More than half have a degree of dementia and one has a learning disability.

The project artist was Felicity Owens.
