Engage creates opportunities for education professionals to meet, connect and share the latest in gallery education practice
Engage produces a range of publications including books, reports, research documents and toolkits specially commissioned and linked to Engage projects.
With the aim of sharing good practice and promoting understanding of the visual arts, our resources can be downloaded for free and used to inspire and support gallery education practice throughout the sector.
In this section, you will also find case studies published on behalf of our members as part of Sharing Practice.
In September 2021, Creative Carbon Scotland ran a series of workshops for Engage Scotland, exploring the visual arts/gallery sector’s response to concerns around environmental sustainability, and opportunities to engage young people in climate action. These resources will help to continue the learning of those who attended the sessions and help organisations and practitioners to address the climate emergency through their work.

As part of Engage Scotland’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the associated shutdown of the gallery sector, we supported Kirin Saeed, a visually impaired disability training specialist, to buddy up with the community engagement team at the National Galleries of Scotland, (NGS), in Edinburgh, during the summer of 2020.

Art for Baby was launched at The Gallery of Modern Art in March 2018 to specifically welcome and engage with parents and their babies under 12 months. The project was in response to research undertaken about the isolation and loneliness that mothers particularly felt within the first year of their babies' life, and their initial journey into motherhood.

Jessica Hartshorn – Case Study – Magnificent Mushrooms project – Boundary Way
The Stitching Together Good Practice Guidelines provide advice for facilitators of participatory textile making workshops and projects, including professional textile practitioners, artists, academic researchers, people working within museums and galleries, community activists and amateur enthusiasts. The guidelines were written by the coordinators of the international Stitching Together network, with valued input from over 30 network members and critical friends.
The guidance aims to provide a practical framework to think about what is needed to continue, or restart, learning services during the Covid-19 pandemic and to support the health and wellbeing of workers and audiences.
This report, produced by Research Scotland, offers eight case studies highlighting where creative practitioners and organisations have successfully delivered face to face work in partnership with schools, communities and families.
