During 2008/09 the Visual Roots project offered eight young people accredited placements in four galleries in England.
Visual arts venues/galleries hosting placements had the option of selecting the most appropriate accreditation for their youth placement from a range on offer, which included Arts Award or the Diploma in Creative and Media or as an entry point to the new Creative Apprenticeships. Most of the galleries chose to deliver the Arts Awards and offered a minimum of 65 hours of support to ensure that the young people completed the accreditation. The galleries worked in partnership with local youth support agencies including schools, Youth Offending Teams and other local partnerships to recruit and support the young people on the programme. The placements took place from November 2008 to February 2009 and participants were offered an exciting range of work-based learning experiences.
