During Phase Two of the Visual Roots project we invited six new galleries to develop two accredited volunteer placements each for hard to reach young people.
Many of the galleries opted for a similar format as in Phase One but had to adapt their working practice for an older cohort of participants. The Youth Advisory Group assisted in the selection of the projects and 12 young people were offered placements from July 2009 to January 2010. Phase Two of the project culminated with a final celebratory event for staff and participants at artsdepot, London. This event was organised to give participants the opportunity to share their experiences with their peers and engage members as well as enabling everyone to reflect on their own journeys. The event was led by Antonio Ribeiro from Storymakers TV, Marisa Dowling and Paul Lyalls, who devised participatory activities using poetry, photography and film to stimulate reflection and create a shared learning experience.
